Kanani Herring POY (no surprise)

By Cindy Luis

Emailed Mike Miazga at VB mag. He confirmed it.

Kamehameha Schools senior Kanani Herring has been named the high school Player of the Year by Mizuno/Volleyball magazine

Herring, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, is a three-time state player of the year and was ranked No. 5 on prepvolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list. She also played for the U.S. Youth National Team for two years, winning the best receiver award at last summer’s NORCECA Girls U-18 World Championships.

Herring was the MVP of the state tournament in all three of Kamehameha’s title runs. The two-time high school All-American has committed to play for Hawaii this fall.

    Congrats Kanani.

  2. vbfan Says:

Wow, congrats to Kanani. She’s turning out to be the most decorated high school player Hawaii has ever gotten, and that includes mainland players. Even Kim Willoughby was never national player of the year out of high school.

I just hope that she can live up to all the hype, I know the fans are expecting a lot out of her next year.

now, i know we got that 6-2 transfer and hs aa that is 6-4. but, could we ask for just one more 6-4 middle in the mold of heather bown.

okay, throw in a robin ah mow or kanoe kamanao while you are at it.

we need a return to glory.

Very good to see that she’s going to be a Warrior. …or Rainbow …or Rainbow Warrior, …or Bow ….or Wahine …or Rainbow Wahine.

    Got all the bases covered.

    Cindy,

Just read that the BYU women’s coaching job is open again. Do you know if Mike Wilton is interested, or has even been contacted?

I know he interviewed for the job the last time it came open and was somewhat surprised that he wasn’t hired back then.

  6. Cindy Luis Says:

sorry, did not ask Mike about it when I saw him today. Although he did coach women at Cal Poly and did look into it the last time for family reasons, I know that he’s very comfortable with the men’s game.
I was more surprised that BYU hired a man for the job after Elaine retired.
