Looking like Central Arkansas in 2009

It is by no means a done deal, but UH is moving toward hosting Central Arkansas to complete the 2009 football schedule.
“We’ve been in communication with Central Arkansas and am trying to solidify something,” UH athletic director Jim Donovan said this evening. “I’ve conferred with Coach McMackin and he said he’s fine with an FCS team.”
Donovan said SMU and the June Jones reunion is out of the picture, at least for 2009.
“That’s correct, they notified us letting us know they’re interested in future years, but 2009 is not possible.”
As Jason Kaneshiro reported a couple of weeks ago, a game against Central Arkansas would likely be Sept. 4, a Friday, to help both teams with travel considerations since they play on the mainland the following week. Donovan said today he has secured the blessing of Aloha Stadium officials and high school football honchos, since Friday is usually the domain of prep football.

Great! That is my favorite team, not! Play a last place Sun Belt team, MAAC somebody. Stay Div I, or play a Div II champ. Nuff with the cupcakes!
I agree with you, Jeff. I’d much rather we play a weak Division 1 team, rather than any Div. 2 team. I really think scheduling IS much tougher now that UH has a much higher profile, regadless of the Sugar Bowl outcome. In fact, I was really hoping that a lot of “victims” would be lining up to play UH because they perceived UH to be a cupcake (thinking that the Sugar Bowl was indicative of the type of team UH is–we ALL know that the Sugar Bowl was NOT & is NOT a true measure). The biggest problem in scheduling now is the tyrannical cost of transportation (gas/oil) which our Nation’s & State’s leaders have continued to do nothing about. Please VOTE in the upcoming election & keep in mind who are the ones perpetuating the inflated prices & allowing their cronies to continue to receive their windfall profits & not get taxed on them.
I’m with Jeff.
Sorry, but nobody wants to see UH play these kinds of teams. We already have to suffer through Idaho, Utah State and the rest of the WAC cupcakes.
Where has Les Murakami gone?
Coach Les would always say,”If you want to be the best, you gotta play the best.”
He’d bring in one powerhouse after the other. Win or lose, it was fun to watch.
Are you kidding me? Do you guys even know who UCA is? (Obviously not) They are more than a cupcake. The team you beat (La. Tech) by so little got doubled up by UCA just last year in the stats category for their game in Louisiana! You are in for more than a game….you’re most likely in for a loss! UCA is above the level of the WAC and the Sunbelt. They have the 4th best QB in the nation! Put away the insults and get ready for one of the best games you will ever see in Hawaii!
#4 qb in the draft.
#1 offense in the FCS.
Av. 35 pts a game.
You should do your research before you make comments like that!
The Warriors already have a killer schedule this year and it’s not like we don’t have other good non-conference competition in 2009 with Navy, UNLV, Washigton State and Wisconsin already on our schedule. So I think that Central Arkansas will be a good game for UH in 2009.
