Maka on hold
By Dave Reardon
UH defensive line coach Dave Aranda told me tonight that the Warriors still don’t know if end Francis Maka will be available this season or not.
Maka is trying to get an additional year of eligibility via NCAA appeal.
“With Francis it’s still wait-and-see,” Aranda said.
Maka would fit nicely into a defensive end group that starts with John Fonoti and David Veikune. Coach Greg McMackin said Fonoti and Veikune will be expected to play much more this season than last when they rotated, but you never have too many defensive linemen.

Dave,
If Maka is not given another year, who are the top backups at defensive end?

Let’s see … there’s Victor Clore, Elliott Purcell, Cameron Allen-Jones and Alasi Toilolo come to mind. C.J. Allen-Jones played DE in the spring but is listed as a linebacker on the current roster.

I’d like to see Maka get his med hardship… But.. if he doesn’t some good can come out of it… perhaps the younger guys can get some reps for the future… but i believe we need him for depth since mack wants to rotate alot… good and bad in the whole situation…

RE: Maka
I heard this was going to be a tough one since the school needed to get records from his former college.
Well, Interim Compliance Officer Amanda, sorry cannot remember your last name, this is your audition to get the position full-time. Not only do you have to pull this one through, but I hope the incoming JC’s sail on through well before the season begins.
