McMackin finally takes a breather

He and his wife Heather are at their home in Las Vegas now, taking some time to relax after a whirlwind four months in which McMackin accomplished much after taking over the head coaching job — putting together a staff, recruiting, spring practice. Next week it’s back to the grind, which includes recruiting for the incoming class of 2009.
Also: began to bring alumni players into the fold (plans some kind of game next year), implemented Super Games, was instrumental in Under Armour deal, revived spring game with Warrior Bowl, embraced prep coaches with clinic … all in between countless public appearances, individual meetings with every player, and dealing with media, as well as boosters and interim and new ADs.
We hear plenty of rumblings about $1.1 million a year being too high a salary for McMackin. But there’s no doubt he’s doing everything he can to earn it.

I’m glad that Mack is taking a breather. I was afraid that he’d burn himself out. He accomplished a lot in a short period of time, and had created a lot of good will and feeling of inclusion. Mack has essentially invited everyone to become stakeholders in Hawaii’s team. He has certainly put his own stamp on the UH program.
this rest is very well deserved.
Well deserved break Coach Mack! Need to rest, re-energize and keep the Mrs happy! Couldn’t imagine anyone else doing a better job in that short period of time. A true blessing in disguise.
While he’s at it in Vegas, maybe he can get some bigger donations from the Boyd
Gaming Corp. dba California Hotel. After all, we’re also playing UNLV again next year. To me, it’s just like a UH home game up there because Hawaii football fans will always go to the game and gamble at the same time. I do the same thing. Just one of 10 to 15 thousand will be there. We’re already booked for the Oregon St. game in Sept. Of course, after that a side trip to Vegas for a few days by charter before coming home.
In addition to all of the job related accomplishments listed by Dave, Coach Mack also bought a house, sold his Texas house, brought his daughter and grandkids to Hawaii and shipped in their horse. He did more in four months than most people do in years! He is a high achiever, but even people like him need to take a break once in a while. Can’t wait to see what he does when he comes back recharged and raring to go.
Hey everybody! The Mac Attack never rests…you know he’s scheming some big plays against Florida and is on the phone or watching film. The worthy opposition is doing the same - gunning for the Warriors!
