Volleyshots

Not a very sharp start to the match. NMSU using a 6-2, including setter Madison Hardy, who was at Hawaii Pacific last season
Hewitt’s 3 serves have either been aces or returned on overpasses for UH points. 12-8. TO NMSU
Notice the slow reaction times by the Wahine when digging ?
Not really
They look really sluggish, not blaming football I think it has more to do with the 5 o clock start.
Don’t think a 5 p.m. start is a big difference. usually if they play weekdays, they have school and the prematch protocol starts at 4. Today, no school, prematch at 2. same 3 hours before gametime. And they got to sleep in. I agree that there isn’t as much energy as we’ve seen. but they are pretty efficient.
UH up 22-18 TO NMSU.
Hewitt 1-0-2, Danielson 5-1-10, Satele 1-1-6, Hartong 1-0-1, Waber 2-1-4. UH hitting .333 to NMSU’s 24.
UH wins 25-18, UH with 3 blocks, 10 digs to NMSU’ 2 bocks and 10 digs. both teams with 11 kills, but uh hitting .308 to .094. 3 aces, 3 SEs for the Wahine. Danielson 5 kills, NMSU’s Giddens with 4.
Same starting lineup for Set 2.
a new wrinkle with Danielson hitting an X. Her two straight aces has Hawaii up 9-3. TO NMSU
Now they’re getting to the ball quicker on defense.
I think teams are a little slow in the beginning as they get a feel for the rhythm of the game and the other team.
NMSU imploding a bit. it’s 17-5. TO Aggies.
Great cover by Mafua on the setter dump. it’s 23-10
And a great set by Ka’aihue to Waber to finish it. 25-10
UH hit 481 to .087 for NMS. Danielson 7-3-17, Waber 7-1-12. Hartong 5-0-7, Hewitt 3-0-4. UH with 2 blocks in Set 2, NMSU 0. and 3 aces in the set, Danielson with 2.
Normal pattern for Set 3, Forsythe MB, Hartong LS
I’m not a fan of this set 3 set up.
Goodman in for Satele. pretty big front with Goodman, Hartong and Hewitt.
Wahine up 15-12 at the TTO. Hewitt 7-0=9, hasn’t had a hitting error against the Aggies in two matches.
When something is working leave it alone .
turnstile 3672, tickets 5696. homecoming hangover?
Danielson with 11th kill. UH up 23-19. TO NMSU
NMSU won’t go quietly. UH was up 24-19. NMSU has scored 3. it’s 24-22. TO UH
they’ve been doing this switch to get forsythe some time, they’ll need her size in the postseason.
This set should have been over a long time ago
Yep, Hawaii finishes it off 25-23. Danielson with 11 kills, 3 aces, 3 blocks. Have to go write a story.. will be back laters.
Waber hit .500. Good for her. NMS has a solid team with a big weakness—floor defense (especially serve receive) and passing. Danielson really skied tonight and she hit a lots of bullets; looked refreshed and ready. Did make a few unforced errors though. Satele must be one of the best blocking opposites in the country right now.
Good to see Forsythe play well tonight. Also good to see Waber hitting a lot smarter. She may be peaking at the right time – just in time for playoffs because they are going to need her to play well. They are also going to need Forsythe. Agree that Satele is a great blocker.
i wish satele was set more.
Me too.
regarding the attendance numbers: homecoming hangover? don’t think that’s the only thing; parents like me are tied up taking their kids trick o treating tonight! i’d rather be at the game with a cold beer!!!!!
Yes, homecoming hangover, Halloween night, Sunday game, Live tv, are all factors.. Usually we have 1 or 2, but all these don’t help.. However 5k is still GREAT.
It was Halloween so I was wondering how it would affect attendance against a traditional rival such as NMS. About 500 fewer than the regular Sunday crowd. Yeah, it is hard to attend a match on Halloween is you have keikis.
In this week’s AVCA Poll Wahine move up to #4 Nebraska drops to #5.after losing to Texas.

Satele has not been set as often in the last 2 games as Kanani and Hartong. Still would like to see Forsythe and Hartong team up more often. Any particular reason for underplaying them together??
Forsythe and Hartong are a pretty good combo but they’re still working on it. It’s obvious an option but much hinges on Forsythe.
Sometimes the passing dictates if Satele gets set. But think with Waber having those open looks, the sets went there.
Would like to see Mafua spread it around a little more. Our middles are good as anybody in the country…getting them touches will open up the outsides. we’re going to need it in the playoffs.
Mafua has been spreading it around. but you have to take what the other team gives you, especially when you’re trying to get Waber more in the offense. NMSU doubled on Danielson, committed a lot on Hewitt since she killed them in Las Cruces.
They are going to give Danielson the most sets, period. and a lot of her attempts weren’t designed plays. they were off balls that she took swings at.
If you look at the set distribution for Sunday,Hewitt 11, Danielson 25, Satele 17, Hartong 15, Waber 12. That’s pretty balanced in my book.
