No refund?

By Dave Reardon

That’s what Oceanic told me yesterday when I asked about the first quarter outage for pay per view customers on Saturday (see today’s column). Maybe there’s hope, since UH says they’re looking at it and there may be some kind of compensation. Seems logical enough that there should be, since people paid to get it live, and did not. Apparently 100 complaints weren’t enough. Here’s one of many that couldn’t get through:

Dave, I tried to call Oceanic and was frustrated by their answering system and gave up after a minute. It was fortunate that we were able to listen to AM1420. It would have helped if they made some announcement during the blackout or during half time to say what they were planning to do, so we would have been prepared to tape the rest of the game. Thanks for your article.

Although I too was peeved that we missed the first quarter live, I don’t get what he’s asking.

If he was talking about what they were going to do about the game while it was on, I mean, once the game was on it was on, then they DID replay the first quarter (which the screen told us right after the game), then replayed the entire game. Also during the black out they did get the commentary on, although it was very soft. If he was talking about compensation, if they don’t know what they’re going to do for us now they surely didn’t know what they were going to do for us then.

Oh, and you can’t even get Oceanic on the phone in a minute when there’s nothing wrong, I don’t think I would have bothered to call during a time like that if all the time I had to wait was a minute.

Here’s another unhappy customer who wants to share her story:

Aloha Dave, Thanks for all of the great bylines that you write…I wanted to comment on the cable issues during the Fresno game. I was so freaked out that I couldn’t see anything…audio was barely audible. I immediately called Oceanic. I spoke with a customer service rep and requested a credit to my account. The rep was somewhat courteous and said that once they got it figured out that I could watch the replay at 8:30. I told her that I would be at work and wanted to watch as much “live” as possible before I departed. I also related to her that if I wanted to watch a replay, I wouldn’t have paid for live pay per view. I would watch on the free K5 broadcast. The rep said that she would credit my account four dollars (yep $4.00) because each game costs $8. Pretty funny huh! Just thought that I’d let you know….Oh, by the way I live in Kona, am a UH grad (way to long ago) and have season football tickets for Hawaii. Thanks again and GEEV’UM WARRIORS!

    Mahalo again and aloha,

    RH
