Congratulations, Hartong. She’s one of the most versatile player the Wahine have had in long time. She kind of reminds me of Angelica Ljungquist. A very good all around player and although Angelica never played outside I’m absolutely certain she would have been as successful on the outside as she was in the middle.
she was the first player I’ve seen run the slide
This girl has a bright future in vball
When it rains it pours,so much news in one day !
If Dave is looking for an OH transfer then he must not have much faith that FF is going to make it academically .
If I’m correct any transfer has to contact him coaches can’t contact players.Need to get the word out.
Or he’s trying to make up for the loss of kanani/chanteal. FF alone isnt enough!!!
HAWAII only has 3 OH’s returning (NOT including Hartong & Fonoimoana). He needs depth at that position badly just in case… Better to have a loaded bench than en empty cupboard.
Dave is stuck between a rock and a hard place as far as scholarships for 2012&13. Hewitt’s decision is critical, hope it comes soon. Right now I believe there are ten players on scholarship. If Hewitt stays it leaves one for FF, she is too good of a player not to hold a scholie until the last moment to see if she is academically eligible. By then it maybe too late to find a quality OH. So its likely that its Hewitt’s scholie that Dave would use to offer a transfer. The longer Hewitt waits to make a decision, the transfer pool gets thinner. There are two local verbal committments, with the situation now its unknown how many scholies will be available come November.
War Memorial holds 3,200 and it will sell out quickly.
Its not a problem for a coach to contact a player looking to transfer if she has a release. Contacting a player through any means who does not have a release could prove to be troublesome.
congrats em, good luck next week at the USA tryouts
With Emily’s agility, quickness and power, she should make the team. First team AA for sure. She is such a dynamic player and a pleasure to watch on the court.
I am a little confused. Was Hewitt on scholarship when she red-shirted her first year? If she does return this year that would mean she would be a 5-yr scholarship player?
On another note I am liking Hartong at OH seems like Hawaii is still battling some serious issues though with the whole Hewitt and Fonoimoana situation….I am just really concerned who is going to be at Opp because we definitely need that position to be a threat. If everything falls into place correctly I would like to see:
OH- Hartong, Croson
MB- Hewitt, Adolpho
Opp-Foinoimoana
S- Uiato
L- Maeda
An athlete could be on scholarship as long as she is eligible to compete IAW NCAA rules. If a player red shirts, plays three years, is injured a year and recieves a medical hardship she could on scholie for for six years.
Surfboy, players have 5 years to play 4 so scholarships are renewable annually for five years, which includes a redshirt year. If player is injured and has to sit out for that reason then after their eligibility is completed (5th year), they apply for a medical hardship and can be on scholarship for a sixth year.
Thanks for the clarification but one more thing….should a player be redshirted or get an acception for Medical Hardship does this still count against a team’s scholarship numbers?
yes it counts. unless the player’s scholarship is not renewed.
Well my source at NMS was right 6′2 OH freshman Kiley Mansfield left and transferred to Sac State but coming from Chico, Calif.I guess being closer to home was the reason.
It really wouldn’t surprise me to hear that Nash and Hays either one or both transfer after their sophomore season.I can see Hays at Texas Tech which is just a few miles down the road from her home.
No offense but who cares about this girl??? Now that uh left the wac, you are gonna have to find someone else to obsessively hate on!
kind of agree LC, that do we really care about NMS any more? and would appreciate if you would use a real email so i can email you directly.
Just because UH left the WAC doesn’t mean that there isn’t interest in their teams or athletes. You may not, but don’t speak for me. Is this blog open to discussion/topics for everyone, or is it restricted to what you two deem appropriate.
Oh please !like people care where some third stringer for nmst is going to end up at. This is a uh blog , go discuss nmst and other wac teams at volleytalk!
I think there is interest in the teams UH used to play. just saying that someone transferring from NMS to Sac State isn’t of much interest to UH fans.
I do use my real e-mail and I do get your e-mails.
thanks. LC. I had replied to an email that said LC and it bounced back.
