In tomorrow’s column, the topic is how the Hawaii and Cincinnati football programs have both significantly matured since 2002, and a beef like the one that marred that game is very unlikely. And Jason will have a story about a UH senior one scout told me is “guaranteed to be drafted.”

I’m guessing Vekinue

My money’s on Norm Chow’s cousin.

UHM92 – Come on now. We know that Norm Chow’s cousin would say that only UCLA players would get drafted because they are far superior than UH players.
Yeah, probably Veikune or Mouton, for his all around ability. Then again, don’t forget about that guy who snaps the ball between his legs to the kickers. Mr. Ingram could have a long career in the NFL.

Gotta be Jake Ingram the long snapper who they want to draft. (If he’s a senior!) Watch that guy snap, and it’s perfect every time. Punt or place kick. Perfect.
One of the the worst things about the Cincinnatti/Hawaii scrap last time was JJ’s cavalier attitude toward it. Kinda thought it was no big deal. Almost kind of a macho funny vibe, a showdown of outlaws and we got the best swings in. But these things can start with a few guys beefing, then get totally out of control with fans involved, and then someone can get seriously, seriously hurt. No get nuts, cuz. No can like that.

Correction – Mr. David Veikune
UHM92: Are you betting on Dr. L. Chow ?

Excuse me UHM92, but that’s Norm Chow’s “second” cousin…..
December 4th, 2008 at 9:26 am
my money is on Elimimian (but not all of it because some is on Veikune; us “gamblers” too chicken to put all of our eggs in one basket. Go Warriors…and a ‘no shame” plug “Go Army, Beat Navy…pretty please, local boys (coach, QB on Navy) not withstanding. Happy Holidays to all UH fans.

Jake is the guy the scout was talking about. Solomon Elimimian, Adam Leonard, Ryan Mouton and David Veikune are all also likely to be drafted. John Fonoti is a possible sleeper. Jameel Dowling is intriguing because of his size. UH fans and opponents know all about Mouton, but the scouts are just learning about him because this is his first year as a starter and he lacks size. I think he will interview very well, and if he times like he’s capable of in the 40 he could end up being the highest draft pick of this year’s class. By the way, we’re hearing that two-time all-WAC center John Estes will most likely return for his senior year rather than test the draft waters.

Regarding the 2002 Springer Show live at Aloha Stadium, reader Ken K. of Honolulu emailed the following comments:
” I have full confidence in Mac and hope that June has learned from his past mistakes.
“June did do a lot of good things but disciplining players was the area that he lacked. I also give June credit for his loyalty to his coaches and players.”

is Fonoti a senior…could’ve swore he’s only a junior

This comment from Uncle Jack Sullivan:
“Great article…..sure hope the Coach’s discipline can showcase a good ball club on all levels.
And how about Michele today again….at this rate…..she will be coming home for screaming….whee whee whee all the way home….”

Dave,
Did you hear that possibly 13 and 0 Ball State turned down an invite by Boise State to the Humanitarian Bowl? Kind of funny that a team that wants to be regarded as a top tier team, retreats from their only worthy adversary of the season to keep their record squeaky clean. Boise State would have likely kicked their a$$.

Haha…I was just poking fun. When Mr. Chow posted his earlier comments it made for some very entertaining responses.
I kinda wish we’d hear more from him just for the fun of it.

Nice column putting the last Cincy game in perspective today. I hadn’t thought through all of the comparisons, nice job!
December 4th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Andrew,
Yeah, too bad for both teams, which are probably better than Cincinnati and maybe one or two other BCS teams. I actually think 2008 Boise State may be better than 2006 Boise State.
As for Ball State, they probably want a bigger payout and warmer weather.
