Team off the past two days. Back in the morning today and tomorrow.
Work was mostly skill drills. lots of passing and serving reps, using all three courts.
They’re looking forward to a competitive match with their alumnae.
Ask Shoji if he was going to us the 6-2 more. He said he would look at developing it during the Big West matches in preparation for the postseason when they’ll likely see a bigger block and need some size in the front row.
It was pretty routine today. No lifting. They’ll do that tomorrow.

Volleyshots

One Wahine had to roll 200 yards the other day. I knew Norm Chow was doing that to football players who got into minor trouble. I wonder what she did now.Last week she was called on the carpet for something else.
Have never heard of Shoji doing that to any of his players. Extra running yes. 200 yards seems a little extreme for anyone. That’s the length of a football field and back.
what ever happen to lizzie blake. I never heard.
Shoji said Blake decided to take a year off. and i think that includes school. she may be back next year or not.
no reason was given but it didn’t appear to be a medical issue.
I hope not. Back row’s pretty crowded.
I’m counting the minutes.Jane Croson’s BBF Summer Ross left Pepperdine, how long will it take ?
Come on Hawai`i fans don’t disappoint me.
She turned Pro!
I know this is men’s volleyball news and no one will really care but looks like Hawaii and Pepperdine made a little trade. Hawaii got HBA Grad Ryan Leung and Pepperdine got JJ Mosolf.
thanks VBF, thought we had Leung a while ago. Wasn’t sure where JJ would end up.
Hope JJ doesn’t come back to hurt UH, he has a lot of potential don’t see him playing much though since Pepperdine has Maurice Torres at OPP.
Does anyone know if the road matches will on the radio this year?
Yes, they will be on the radio this year.
Next week’s three matches … Tiff Wells, who has been doing color for the Wahine volleyball and basketball teams, and men’s volleyball on 1420, makes his solo debut.
Scott unable to go and Blaine had a conflict.
Couple of articles about possible future wahine players??
Nikki Hess outside hitter from Phoenixhttp://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/2012/09/04/20120904horizon-volleyball-players-stand-tall-title-favorites.html
Also mentions Jensen Cunningham but she recently commited to Deitre and San diego State.
Brooke McDermott outside hitter from Miami http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/09/13/3000013/mcdermott-standing-out.html
Thanks WF.
We’re recruiting against the likes of Montana and Northern Arizona, really?
UH sends out hundreds of letters of interest every year, as do many programs. wouldn’t read too much into who else is recruiting her. Reporter probably asked who have you gotten letters from. Article doesn’t say University of Hawaii. says as far as away as Hawaii. Could be a DII school in Hawaii.
Mcdermott looks really good. I think she is definitely D1.
Well Hess is supposed to win Gatorade player of the year in Arizona, so maybe she is just being overlooked? or maybe she’s a walk on candidate or sand recruit, she plays sand too. she’s a 2012 and UH already has Taylor and Higgins so I do not see her coming unless she is a sand player.
Meant that she is a 2013 recruit, not 2012
Vinny: April won -a silver metal @ the Olympics. Misty May won the gold metal. She was heavily recruited by HI. Think Dave said she owed it to her hwn. heritage to be a Wahine. Has a long and beautiful hwn. name. She went to Long Beach State who had been a huge nemesis for HI. A monster star. You might be able to catch April on TV-sports channel when beach v.b. is televised, unlike HI games. (Misty & co. considered to be the finest team ever.) Believe L.B. upset HI twice somewhere in the final 4–once when HI was ranked # 2. They’ll meet this season.
Hawaii SHOULD have met Long Beach in the Final Four many times but unfortunately seeding was done regionally (back then) instead of nationally (like it is done today). They didn’t start shipping teams out of their region until ’92 when they shipped Stanford out of the West Region. That’s the year the Cardinal won their first NC.
disagree with that Kimo. The years that Long Beach State was ‘up there’ were some down years at UH. true they didn’t start shipping teams out of the region until 92. but 93 was when they expanded the field from 48 to 64.
92 also the only time UH didn’t make the NCAA tourney. injury plagued 15-12. lost to BYUH, which went on to win the NAIA title.
IMHO, when UH should have been in the final four was against UOP in the mid 80s, such as 85 and 86.
Sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about Burt
I never said anything about April or May. I actually don’t even like either one of them and couldn’t care less what they did in the Olympics. I didn’t even watch much of the Olympics.
FYI- The Alumnae dinner was very nice. Kanani Danielson donated $10,000 to the team with her first check. What a woman! It will be announced that we will play her new team from Japan at the end of the month.
thanks. was unable to make it. was at the Circle of Honor meeting that ran late.
wow; that was generous of her!
I meant” it was announced”
Kanani is amazing. Can’t wait to see her play on the national team next summer. fingers crossed.
Yes, Kanani told me Wednesday night she was planning to ‘give back.’ but i was unable to attend Thursday to hear the announcement.
in case anyone’s interested, i stumbled upon a blog that touches on wahine volleyball: http://notbyreason.blogspot.com/search/label/UHWVB
a personal fan, i guess
The owner of this blog came here one day and said that she didn’t want the link to her blog posted here ,doesn’t even want anyone mentioning her blog here.
here’s her sand page. if you go through the comments on the latest post, they have the names of the eight girls who’ll be playing sand only.

Old news darling. knew about it weeks ago.Just need to go to the right places.
thanks. We’ve had the blog mentioned before
I passed on the dinner because it was just too expensive for my liking but in some photos that I saw it looked like it was a success and so many former Wahine came,I was impressed with that.
Danielson will be making some decent money in Japan, her $10,000 donation is a tax deduction, smart move on her part.
It was also an incredibly generous act by a wonderful young lady. It gives me hope for this generation of young people.
Agree. It shows that she recognizes what the school has done for her and appreciates it. I hope other players follow her example.
I don’t don’t know what her motivation was, don’t even think it’s important.
agree Queenie. All she told me was she wanted to give back however she could. Tax deductible or not still generous.
Does anyone know who this is ?

I could be wrong but I am beginning to think that Pacific is going to be a very dangerous team in the Big West this year,
