RPI out, AVCA poll not, practice & other morning musings

Just got back from running errands after hitting UH’s morning practice.
About 100 people in line when the ticket office opened at 9 a.m. Some of the season ticket holders that had pre paid didn’t realize their tickets were to be picked up at noon.
As for the RPI, Hawaii at No. 7. Illinois still No. 1, texas, Iowa State, Nebraska, UNI, Purdue.
USC at 8, Tennessee and Florida State.
if you look at the seedings and the RPI, they didn’t completely follow it so who knows what they were thinking. Shoji’s feeling is the committee made the bracket Friday night and didn’t care that Nebraska had a bad loss to Northwestern
As for practice, caught the last half hour. good energy and some pretty funny ‘touch, no touch’ exchanges. I would never play poker with Hartong, she didn’t even crack a smile when she had three teammates on the other side closing in on her and yelling, touch, touch. Hartong finally put her hand up to admit it.
Uiato had two straight back dumps that were impressive and Tuaniga and Goodman teamed for a couple of solid blocks in succession. Hartong played left and middle.
As per the usual ‘first practice back’ Hewitt (back) and Danielson (various things) out at the end.

is AVCA poll even coming out, says next poll December 20?
I don’t where everyone is getting this Dec 20th date from if you look at the bottom of last weeks poll it says Dec 28th that be today.

Lots of confusion today
I see where ur date is coming from but could have been oversight by AVCA. Thought that once playoffs start, they don’t rank until the end, I could be wrong but already 5pm on East Coast.
I agree dosen’t look like there will be one until the final poll.
Brad, there is a poll today. as Haley said, he voted yesterday and three of his top four teams are in the Hawaii regional

Assuming that there will be no upset in the Hawaii Regional it should be called the Final Four. Hawaii, California, Southern Cal, Nebraska. Guarantee there will be more spectators than in San Antonio Texas. They committee forgot that we have the best weather to play volleyball.
VB fan, could see that field. but you never know.
Depending if Cal’s healthy or not, could see Pepperdine winning. they have the height to deal with Cal. sometimes all about the match ups
do feel that out of the subregionals of the Hawaii bracket, UH has the toughest draw. Oregon could be a problem, if they do indeed beat CSU. which is what I see happening.
Is there any information regarding radio, streaming or TV coverage of the Thursday match?

I think the only game OC12 would not be able to show would be the 2nd game of the regionals because didn’t Beth say yesterday, they would have it on ESPN or ESPNU. They were going to have four of them in a row.

All good. no worries. Have come around to liking Rose. took about 10 years. just didn’t understand his sense of humor.
Might be getting ahead a bit, but ……. is whoever-is-in-charge-at the UH working at all on a plan to get a WAHINE rooting section at the FINAL FOUr in San Antonio when and if the team gets through this touch draw the NCAA has again put them in? Amazingly, at every FINAL FOUR appearance for the WAHINE there’s been a good fan base that managed to find their way to the event, BUT THEY’VE NOT EVER – at least not at the 4 I’ve gone to – had a section like PENN, STANFORD, TEXAS, ETC. We talk big about supporting our team ,,,,, but not at the BIG DANCE where they really need their fans. in one section cheering them on. HOW DO THE OTHER COLLEGES DO IT?
It’s hard for people from Hawaii to commit if Hawaii isn’t in the Final Four. Airfare alone could be near $1,500.
Hawaii’s managed some decent crowds at final fours but, agree, it is expensive. UH has a Panda Travel person in the athletic department.
The real problem is getting BACK to Hawaii right before Christmas. those seats have been sold for months.
I speak from experience when trying to get back from a FF. Florida in 09 was a nightmare because of the wether. don’t remember who I flew but it wasn’t the original carrier I was booked on.
Cindy, you mentioned Hewitt and Danielson with some problems. Back and other issues. Will they be ready to play this Thursday? A little concerned if they`re not healthy for the tournament… Any more updates from practice or what Shoji has said about this coming 1st & 2nd? Mahalo..
John nothing to be concerned with. them sitting out toward the end of a Monday practice is SOP. been like that all season.
