Thanks for the reminder to post it. They shot the roster pictures yesterday.

As you know, team has been practicing at Queen’s. all the indoor players are outside except for Adolpho, Danielson, Hewitt, Maeda and Tuaniga.

Roster has 15, they’ll use 10 per match, 5 doubles teams. Don’t know the teams other than Ka’aihue-Nordyke. Third scholarship player is Ashley Lee who played at Long Beach State.

UAB was to have come out to play both indoor and out but has pulled out. Believe the March 17th tournament at Queen’s will have the Hawaii DII schools.

Team also in Florida for 1 tourney and 2 matches during spring break (March 27-April 1)

host HPU 4-7, at Hermosa Beach tournament ant LBS, LMU April 14-16. AVCA championships April 27-29 in Alabama.

    no Falyn?

  • Cindy Luis

Not on the roster. Don’t believe she is eligible yet. she needs to have sophomore standing to compete, which means two semesters of school under her belt. She was ineligible last spring, meaning she didn’t pass in fall of 10. she was declared ineligible for Fall 11, which means she didn’t pass spring 11.
For her to play in fall 12, she needs to have enough credits at UH fall and spring to be a sophomore this fall.

I’m sort of surprised that this many indoor players came out to play. Usually some players focus on education or other reasons.

Why is players like Hartong, Goodman, and Uiato listed as freshman?

    • Cindy Luis

you shouldn’t be surprised. Wong and Shoji said at the end of last indoor season that the indoor team would be doing sand training and most of them would be walking on to the sand team. it’s great cross training for indoor, which is the point.

      • Beauston

I agree, I thought it was a brilliant idea to have the indoor players do cross training with sand, definitely an advantage for the Wahine

  • AdmrVT

vbf808: Because while they are sophomores for indoor, this is the 1st year for sand and their 1st year of “eligibility” in the sport – hence they are freshmen. If this was the 2nd year of send, they’d be redshirt freshmen.

  • jogga

I don’t understand. Why is Kaaihue listed as a senior then? Has she been playing for another school and is transferring to UH?

  • Cindy Luis

I was confused as well until I thought about it.
    As Adm explained.
The class year is based on how many years of eligibility a player has left in sand …

Kaaiahue, Lee, Nordyke have 1 year to play they are seniorsThey are using their fifth year of eligibility to play 1 year of sand.
it was like that with Deitre Collins and Kim Willoughby. They used up their four years of volleyball but played basketball their fifth year, since they didn’t use a redshirt year. you have five years of eligibility but only 4 years in one sport.

Hartong has used up 2 years of indoor. she will be a junior indoor next year. BUT this is her first year of sand. she is a freshman.

    thanks Cindy for the explanation.

  • Beauston

Cindy what’s the coverage for the games is looking like?
Im sure they are still working things out but any plans on live feed of PPV at least?

  • LC

I think we are a long ways off from any coverage except for articles in the SA.Even Live Stats would be out of the question for many of the sites in this sport.

  • question

    Any truth to this:

“Hewitt is no longer practicing with the indoor team, and she has made the announcement she does not plan to return to HI after graduation.”

    I haven’t heard any announcement, so…

  • Cindy Luis

Hewitt hasn’t been practicing with the indoor team because the indoor team mostly is practicing for the sand season. We knew over a month ago that she wasn’t going to do sand. there has been no ‘indoor’ practice.

  • question

    Figured. Thanks!

  • Ron

Cindy, I sent you an e-mail two weeks ago re: Hewitt. I saw her at Whole Foods and she said that she was not going to play next year.

    • Cindy Luis

thanks ron. got your email. haven’t talked to Hewitt. everything I’ve been told was that she’s coming back as a grad student. It’s not that I’m doubting you but I don’t know who you are.

  • Ron

I am the person who used to sit near you and now sits behind the bench. She was very nice about it but was very clear that she was not going to play next year.
