This is ridiculous. The university needs to file some kind of official protest. I don’t understand how you can be the 8th ranked team, most recent RPI of 16 and still not be seeded in the tournament. It’s just absolutely insane. Did anyone else get massively screwed like this? I hope the team harnesses this incredible negative energy and turns it into some positive competitive fury.

  • kaleiboy November 25, 2012 at 11:14 am

Hawaii’s RPI is showing 17 as of today

I can’t wait to hear what Dave, as well as his colleagues, has to say about UH not being seeded. One has to wonder if these kind of disappointments year after year drive Dave closer to edge of retiring and saying “f— it already, we’ll never get a fair shake.” I guess being in the Big West didn’t even matter.

  • James November 25, 2012 at 11:33 am

This is ridiculous. nebraska gets the number 4 seed after not finishing the big 10 season strong, UH goes undefeated in the big west and are now not even seeded. prob the only top 10 team that is not seeded, again. yet teams that have pretty bad losses recently are still seeded, and seeded pretty high.

As has been the case before all that is left is for the Wahine to go and bust the bracket which it has also done before. Unfair is only bad if you let it get you down and allow it to hinder your performance. They can just play their game and let their on court results prove their case. Year after year, things don’t change, but year after year Hawaii has a team that can win in their conference and in the NCAA tournament. Go Wahine find your justice on the court. And I do hope you meet Washinton and beat them so the committee can see the error of their ways. Or if Washinton loses in the first round and their home crowd evaporates and Hawaii draws a large crowd for the site final. Whatever, just do it on the court, I know there’s no quit in this team.

Oh, yeah, forgot to ask who’s got tv for this I hope it aint gonna be ESPNU again. Ugh! But I’ll take any coverage.

Chris McLachlin said he didn’t know if Oceanic was going yet.

Unrewarded for a 26-2 season, #8 AVCA, #17 RPI. Kentucky 20-10 season, no AVCA ranking, #19 RPI gets the 16 seed over UH. The #17 RPI is the NCAA’s excuse for not seeding UH, but Kentucky?

  • hollycow November 25, 2012 at 12:32 pm

The #17 RPI is the NCAA’s excuse for not seeding UH. Some say that the committee is unbiased against UH but I’m thinking otherwise when the gave Kentucky, with 10 loss season, unranked and a #19 RPI to host. Can we say the NCAA is biased to the SEC now? I think yes.

Well, that loss to Berkeley early this season was costly. It was the only loss that was preventable. For Berkeley it was a life-saver and it gave that team a 50% victory ratio and enabled it to be given an at-large berth. On the bright side, had Hawaii been seeded 16th, it would have been sent to the Penn State regional and Penn State is seeded #1. So there’s a silver lining to this. It will be a very tough call to beat Washington and even Santa Clara is no push-over. I won’t make any prediction as I don’t want to sound overly pessimistic, but I’ll be positively surprised if Hawaii can make it to the Nebraska regional. Wishing the Rainbow Wahine the best.

If UH ended today with a RPI #16, they would not be sent to Penn St. The committee would give UH another seed # which would direct them to the west coast. They are famous for manipulating numbers. There are two teams with RPIs lower than UH who are not hosting and two above UH at #18, #19 that are hosting.

      • Cindy Luis November 25, 2012 at 6:19 pm

NCAA could have easily seeded UH 16 and in the Penn State region. UH was in Penn State’s regional in 2007 when shipped to Louisville for the subregional, losing to Middle Tennessee. But they would have put UH as a seeded team that wasn’t hosting.
