Success from the NCAA
By Cindy Luis
We have a ‘go’ from the NCAA. But I am limited to 3 per match.About 15 minutes away from first whistle. And about 60 people here. Doubt there’s any general public. Looks a lot like family and friends from both teams. But seriously, this is about as big as Hemmeter at Punahou when it’s divided. Maybe a few more seats. Think McKinley is bigger.

So they could schedule a better venue at a high school gym?

I don’t know what the NCAA requirements are but the UL campus gym is under 900. They have a minimum for seating. This may be the minimum.

I’ve heard that the minimum capacity requirement in order to host a subregional is 2,000.

That 3 per match limit is just stupid. How can they monitor it? How can they monitor anyone who has a cell phone and texts updates during the game? It’s like a few years ago when they banned video cameras but not still cameras. Duh! Both types of cameras can do both stills and videos. How do you know who’s using what feature on their camera? But I guess since this is your job, Cindy, it wouldn’t do you any good to try to challenge their rules. Gotta play by their game.
