Surprising win for the Wahine?

By Cindy Luis

What impressed me most today was Hawaii’s ability to rally late in Set 3. Down 18-13. There’s not much room for mistakes.NMSU coach Mike Jordan was very impressed with Hawaii’s passing and serve-receive. Says it’s the difference from last year to this.Dave Shoji was very happy as well. He said the players joked about sweeping and then they did it.

Congratulations to the team! No question this team is mentally stronger this year. Not surprising that this has lead to steadier passing.

Why do think its a surprising win for the Wahine?

At this point, you should know that this is a far superior serve receive and digging team than past Wahine teams of the last few years. Again, unlike past Wahine teams, the OH/MBs are attacking smartly, with an array of shots. Just check out the hitting percentages. Hittle last two years, had a hitting percentage of .180, Aneli last year percentage was

maybe she just meant it was surprising that they won in three.

Thanks. That’s what I meant. Plus there is a question mark to encourage discussion. I was surprised it went 3. Espcecially impressed by the rally in Set 3. 18-13 is big to make up.

Our team is good enough this year that I’m not surprised whenever the Wahine win in three. I expect the Wahine to win all the WAC matches in three. I’m mortified when we lose a game and absolutely astounded whenever any WAC team gets 20 on us.

I truly believe that if the Wahine really focus and play with intensity, no WAC team can get to 20 in any game. I believe we are that much better than any WAC team.

If we play with a sense of urgency like we did against UW, we smoke every WAC team. It shouldn’t even be close. It’s a matter of will. How bad do you want it? How much more than the other girl? The degree of more determines the outcome and margin of victory. Against weaker teams (WAC) the margin of victory should be great. Against the creme de la creme, the margin of victory is enough to be exhilarating. Go Bows!
