Tachibana says he’s leaning to UH

January 31st, 2008

I spoke with Alema Tachibana, the Kahuku linebacker, earlier this evening. He said he’s been offered by UH, is leaning toward committing to the Warriors, and might do so this weekend if his visit goes well. He also has an offer from Utah.

    Hey Dave,
    That’s great news (re:Tachibana)!!!

Have you heard anything new about the JC QBs that the UH coachesa were after????

    • Dave Reardon February 2, 2008 at 9:51 am

      Trodnowski visited last week.
      Rausch viisiting now.

  • jediwarrior February 1, 2008 at 5:07 am

Great to hear that Alema is seeking a Manoa address.

Have a great visit to all potential Warriors this weekend.

  • 808 February 1, 2008 at 5:34 am

    Great news! Thanks, Dave.

  • lupchong February 1, 2008 at 5:35 am

I hope he isn’t just being nice and not wanting to disappoint you (and us). Did you ask in your best “you sure?” mode?

    • Dave Reardon February 1, 2008 at 10:12 am

Why would I ask him if he’s “sure” that he’s leaning one way???
It’s not like he said he committed.

Also, I don’t think he’s worried about disappointing me. I’m a reporter, not a fan or coach.

  • wes February 1, 2008 at 7:17 am

thanks for the scoops…Wow what an awesome way to start aloha Friday…Go Warriors.

  • KonaWarrior February 1, 2008 at 7:32 am

Dave, did you get any indication from Alema what was it that began to sway him in considering UH more seriously? Would he have felt the same way if JJ was still in place? Did Mack’s and Cal Lee’s home visit make that much of an impressions on him? I know that it still isn’t a done deal, but it would be interesting to note how much of an impact certain, assumedly mundane actions could definitely impact local recruiting for the future.

    • Dave Reardon February 1, 2008 at 10:14 am

No. We didn’t talk very long.
We’ll address these questions if he commits, or on LOI day.

  • jabba February 1, 2008 at 7:53 am

    just awesome!

  • Norm Liwanag February 1, 2008 at 7:56 am

Great news. Now I hope all goes well with the visit. Mack and staff are doing a very fine job. Imua!

  • Bowzooka February 1, 2008 at 10:00 am

How good is this kid, really? Is he a top 3 DE or LB recruit in the state? I’m excited to hopefully re-open the pipeline to the North Shore. If he’s as good as Blaze or Kalilimoku this year, then great. We need more players like Blaze! Tough, fast, great instincts, love to hit.

    • Dave Reardon February 1, 2008 at 10:15 am

Paul Honda, who has watched him play often, said his forte is his speed.

Colt followers: please remember to catch Colt tomorrow (Sat).on ESPN/OC22 at 11a during the 10th College Football All-Star Challenge. Here is add’l info:

  • Wayne O. February 1, 2008 at 11:57 am

Looks promising on Alema Tachibana. I hope to hear the same on Paipai. I will call him Mr. Falemalu. Good luck to him.
Good luck to the Warrior coaches and hosts this weekend on the prospective recruits.

  • RedZone February 1, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Dave do you have a list oplyers visiting uH this weekend?

    • Dave Reardon February 1, 2008 at 2:40 pm

No, I just have bits and pieces at this point, what I’ve already mentioned, plus Kawika Ornellas, a DB from Mililani with pretty good speed.

The latest I’ve heard is 17 visitors, so we’ll see.

      • J-DOG February 1, 2008 at 3:57 pm

        oh yeahhh…DA DAVE!

      • hwnstln February 1, 2008 at 5:17 pm

This will be an interesting weekend. Good luck to Mack and the coaches. JJ is doing great with recruits de-committing and going to SMU. I’m looking (hoping) for a couple of top local guys, and a mainland QB and WR. Dave, do you see any surprises like a 4/5 star recruit showing up?

  • funnel cake February 1, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Thanks, das awesome stuff. Keep ‘em coming.

  • Kaimuki boy February 1, 2008 at 6:49 pm

Dave awesome reporting. Its good news to hear Alema is leaning. Leaning is a very good start. I hope Alema likes his visit. With Mack as HC, Warrior should be attractive for defense guys.

Wes, thanks for the post of the players and where they are going. Warriors still get chance at quite a few of them.

Mack’s first recruiting class is shaping up to be chicken skin. I’m crossing my fingers!

  • Manoa Mist February 1, 2008 at 8:30 pm

    Yes, mahalo Wes! Good info.

  • guardian February 2, 2008 at 12:17 am

If Tachibana commits, does that only leave about
2 to 3 scholarships available for the 16+ visitors tis weekend?? Somebody help me with this “new math”!

    • Dave Reardon February 2, 2008 at 9:56 am

Not all visitors, by far, are offered scholarships. Many are invited to walk on. Sometimes the coaches and current players learn something about a prospect (or something is confirmed) that makes them believe the prospect won’t fit in, and he isn’t even invited to walk on.

Some schools bring teammates/friends of top prospects in for visits on the same weekend as the guy they really want.

Also, sometimes visitors are good players headed to JCs that the 4-year school is making an investment in for the future.

One more thing: Some guys might get grayshirt offers, or be going on missions.

  • wes February 2, 2008 at 11:04 am

all star event with Colt almost starting on ESPN/OC 22:-)

  • nanoo.net April 18, 2019 at 3:15 am
