Tough break for Satele

Linebacker Brashton Satele will have season-ending surgery next week to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Satele suffered a dislocated shoulder while attempting to make a tackle during the Warriors’ scrimmage last Saturday and met with doctors Monday night when it was decided he’d go through with the surgery. Satele used a redshirt year in 2005 and plans to petition for a sixth year of eligibility.
Satele had a similar injury last season, but opted not to have surgery.
“I kept reinjuring it and it just got worse and worse,” Satele said.
In the meantime, Satele has attended practices the last two days while helping Mana Lolotai and Jake Heun, who are in a close competition for the starting middle linebacker position.
It’s the second straight year a projected starter at linebacker suffered a season-ending injury in fall camp. Last year, a torn calf muscle sidelined Blaze Soares during the preseason.
“When you lose someone like that it’s a big loss, there’s no two ways about it,” linebackers coach Cal Lee said of Satele. “Things do happen and we just have to move on. He has to take care of his injury and we have to find someone else and with Mana Lolotai and Jake Heun. They have to step up their game and be ready to play.”
