It is confusing with the Olympic team headed to London but this group are the ones who didn’t make the Olympic team but are considered part of the national team.

Honolulu’s Kawika Shoji had 18 asssts as a young group of players from the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team dominated Mexico, 25-8, 25-16, 25-18 Tuesday at the Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Shoji (‘Iolani, Stanford), the team captain, added a kill and an ace. Middle Matt Rawson (Hawaii) had five kills and a match-high three blocks.
The U.S. (2-0) finish pool play Wednesday against Brazil. The Americans finished with advantages in kills (42-23), blocks (11-7), aces (7-2) and digs (24-7).

  • On another topic, Ali Santi is listed as the only setter on the UC Santa Barbara 2012 vb roster.

There is another player that is listed as a setter and opposite but they are a freshman. But I still think Santi will be have a really good chance of starting.

Cindy, is there any official date on when practices start?

  • Thanks vballfreak808, Jaylen Villanueva a Los Alamitos HS alum. It won’t only be a homecoming for Santi, will also be a reunion for Jane, Emily and Jaylen when they play at the SSC.

thought i had mentioned Santa’s transfer a few weeks ago.
practice starts the week of Aug. 6.

  • I didn’t see it. The possibility of a transfer from Georgia Tech was mentioned months ago, you posted that you were going to ask her mom. I follow this blog closely, didn’t see any follow up. To my knowledge the list of players on the Santa Barbara website was the first confirmation of the rumour. Just happened to run across it yesterday.

  • News of Ali Santi’s transfer from Georgia Tech to UCSB was out in April.

  • Cindy Luis

sorry, thought i had posted after i spoke with Lori, who said it was going to be a really good fit. and closer to home and coming back at least once a year with UH now in the big west.

      Cindy,

You did post it back in one of your April blogs. It was part of a bigger blog post, that could be why “leftout” might have missed it.

  • Steve, I went through the entire blogs of April 2012, the only mention of Ali Santi is on 22 April. The blog heading is “Success with Curts Photo”. The bottom of which there are four enteries begining with roofer68 “transfer of local interest, Ali Santi to California”. Two others, initially the info was from another blog. Cindy’s post “that is interesting about Santi, hadn’t heard from her mom about that”. I can’t recall any other posting about the transfer, so I felt that the 2012 SB listing of team members was the first source of confirmation.
