U.S. men advance to World League semifinal
By Cindy Luis
Clay Stanley had six kills as the U.S. men’s volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the FIVB World League with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of host Bulgaria Friday in Sofia.
Stanley, the team captain, added an ace and a block in the 78-minute victory. The Americans will play Cuba Saturday while Bulgaria takes on Poland. Today’s winners play Sunday for the gold medal.
“Our outside hitters passed the ball really well, which helped us run our offense,” said Stanley, the starter at opposite. “Our middles had an excellent match getting numerous kills off the net. Donny (Suxho) set them really well.
“I look forward to the semifinals.”
The U.S. last won the World League in 2008 before going on to win the Olympic gold medal later that year.

Ka Ulukoa volleyball club 16′s is undefeated and will be playing for the 3rd?4th? straight gold medal in a few hours if anyone is interested in the webcast at the above link.
Ka Ulukoa match starts at 11:20.
Congrats to Ka Ulukoa for winning the 5th gold medal in a row.
Micah Ma’a, Evan Enriques and Tui Tuileta are really good.
Ma’a is like a male version of Misty May, sweet hands, very quick and deceptive, great defense and offensive threat. Clearly the MVP.
Enriques is solid all around and has great volleyball IQ and made some amazing digs.
Tuileta is hitting as hard as some of the top MPSF players now at 16.
On the Balboa Bay team, Taylor Sander’s little brother is pretty good, but probably BYU bound.
Thanks Warriorfan, congrats to Ka Ulukoa. Commentators were really bad, talked alot of b.s. while the match in progress.
I agreed they were terrible
I don’t know why USA volleyball has Kevin Barnett there giving out medals to the boys instead of calling the games .
Clay Stanley is 6-9 feet-inch tall. What happened to yours truly Kawika Shoji? Or even the brother all american Stanford with the other all american Brad Lawson? How come?
