Bruins has changed setters to start this match with Moenoa.
Aztecs scored the first point on NV by the Bruins. UCLA now up 6-1. TO SDSU. no surprise they are targeting Waber on the serve.
UCLA up 16-6; TO SDSU. of the Aztecs’ first 4 points, 3 were on Bruin errors and a kill by Waber.
UCLA 11-1-17, SDSU 4-3-17.
Cindy, this match is being streamed online for free, does that mean the Hawaii match will also be free and streamed as well?
Don’t know. guess we’ll have to wait and see. The PPV is supposed to be for Hawaii matches only.
Pretty ugly. Bruins win 25-11
UCLA hit 500, 16-3-26; SDSU 038 5-4-26. both teams with 3 SEs. Waber 1-0-4.
I’m not sure they even broke a sweat! The Wahine are going to have a huge challenge tomorrow…
San Diego State making more of a game of it, trail 11-9. make that 11-10 on the ace.
Bruins pull away at 15-12 when Waber hits long. TTO. not real pretty either side. UCLA 4-4-16 .000, SDSU 6-8-17 -118.
Bruins take a 18=13 lead. TO SDSU.
UCLA wins it 25-20. Bruins 11-4-27 259. SDSU found a little rhythm, 13-11-31. finally out of negative. Waber 3-1-9.
Aztecs led early 8-7 UCLA up 15-10 at the TTO.
Poor Deitre. Aztecs make a really good play. then an SE. Service errors killing them. it’s 23-17. TO SDSU.
UCLA finishes it 25-18. Means UH will start on time. Bruins hit 296 for Set 3, 350 for the match. SDSU 212 for Set 3, 111 for the match. Waber 5-2-16. Think the stats are off AGAIN. they have Jackels for only 3 digs. Hard to believe that.
Sealy only used Moenoa to set tonight. Guessing he’ll go with Strehlow Sunday.
Maeda is always getting screwed by the stats people. Apparently she is only averaging 1.38 digs per set. Last night? 5 digs. The epic Cal match? 6 digs. I find that hard to believe.
Still think Moenoa is gonna transfer after this season
Depends if they bring in another setter. could see it then.
The PAC-12 and now Oceanic have me 100% shut out for video this year, so I won’t get to see UCLA play until I visit LA for upcoming matches against Pepperdine, USC, and now-deadly OSU, but Sealy has followed last year’s POLICY of trying out lots of combinations before PAC-12 starts. He said last year that he has no set lineups during the first week of practice. As another example, look at who he started at UH last year against top-25 Ohio State.
The roster is very deep at every position except MB, and before PAC-12 starts he likes to test that depth as a way to keep everyone interested and awake, and to reward players for good weeks of practice (Klineman yesterday?). He even sat Bo down one match last week just to try Reeves (?- the UCLA site didn’t say) at libero. All the freshman have received a little PT, with Drolson getting the biggest # of games while she works on her passing. As he said early last season, the depth will either be a blessing or a curse.
From their stats page, he has split setting duties exactly down the middle, mostly on a match-by-match basis like this weekend. On the first weekend he played Moenoa against Notre Dame and then Strehlow against NU, so I have no idea who he’ll start against UH. Both are just under 10 assists/game, BS has slightly better digging numbers, MM better blocking despite her size. I think he has confidence in both, but doesn’t want to risk a 6-2 when things are going well. Neither has connected spectacularly with the middle, although Zoe with her slide has apparently been easier to find than Mariana quick across the middle, and Zoe had several successive good matches with no errors.
Kidder leads in swings and kills but hadn’t really caught fire (until SDSU?), while Love has hit better than early last season, more like her NCAA performances. Karsta Lowe has been unstoppable – tonight’s stats are already blanked for the UH start and not yet posted at UCLA, but she might have lifted her numbers close to .500 overall through tonight. He’s even been leaving her in the back row sometimes, using Reeves full-time in the back row for SOMEONE, and part-time in front for Karsta. Meg Norton might be the most likely first DS, based on over 2 digs/set last year in half-time duty for Kidder.
Still no reply from Oceanic to last night’s query about why what I cheerfully paid $6.28/night to watch last year doesn’t work at any price this year (it “buffers” without end), so I’ll look forward to gametracking the UH match while muttering under my breath.
