UH defeats CSUN 3-2 1-30

By Cindy Luis

Pretty sloppy to start. CSUN has forged ahead 15-11. The question at the moment: Where is Gus Tuaniga? He was supposed to start but is nowhere to be seen.Tuaniga on the bench in street clothes. Will have to find out what’s up. CSUN wins Set 1 30-21  Warriors hanging in there. CSUN serving errors hurting them. UH wins Set 2 30-28.  Ace by Tanner Nua finishes out Set 3 for CSUN with the Matadors winning it 30-22. Vance with 22 kills for CSUN Brennon Dyer has 9 for UH and Walker 8.  Impressively Hawaii has tied it with a 30-23 win in Set 4. 28 kills for Vance, 14 for Dyer.

Great win for the Warriors. I’ve been listening on the radio and it didn’t sound like pretty volleyball. Still a great win for Hawaii. Heard also that Gus won’t start or play tomorrow. Cindy, you know any thing about Tuaniga’s situation?

don’t know about Gus for tomorrow. Wilton said to ask Gus what happened. Gus said he didn’t want to talk about it but wanted to apologize to the coaches and his teammates. said it wouldn’t happen again (whatever it was).
Wilton said he didn’t know that he wouldn’t start Tuaniga until right after he was on Scott Robbs’ show, which is done about 30 minutes before the first whistle.

Sorry had to finish my story before adding to the blog. Hawaii wins Set 5 15-12. Really nice job on defense by both teams. CSUN had 52 digs, 19 by Keohohou. Uh had 47, 16 by Carney.
Warriors outblocked the Matadors 19-9 4-3 in Set 5, 6-1 in Set 4.
Vance had 32 kills, 10 in the final 2 sets and took 65 swings. Still hit .385.
Matadors had 33 service errors. They’ve lived and died by the serve. It cost them tonight. Both teams had five aces. UH with 19 SE.
CSUN hit .236 for the match but .081 in Set 4, .111 in Set 5. UH was .133 for the night, steadied out in the last two sets. .226 in Set 4 and .278 in Set 5. Warriors were negative .026 in Set 3.
