Under the lights
By Jason Kaneshiro
The Warriors got their first taste of playing under the lights with tonight’s 2-hour practice at Aloha Stadium.
The receivers and defensive backs faced off in one-on-one and three-on-two drills (two receivers vs. three DBs). The linebackers joined in for a 7-on-7 period, including red zone competition.
The latter portion of practice was dedicated to special teams, with the Warriors working on various situations in punt coverage and return, kickoff coverage and return and field goals.
Although it was a relatively light practice in terms of contact, the Warriors didn’t leave the stadium unscathed.
Defensive tackle Chris Leatigaga suffered an apparent knee injury during one-on-one line drills. Trainers stabilized his leg and he was taken from the field in a van. He was to have an MRI tonight.
Leatigaga, a senior, was bracketed with Geordon Hanohano for the backup spot at left defensive tackle on the Warriors’ latest depth chart.
Linebacker Brashton Satele attended practice a day after having surgery on his left shoulder.
The team will have a quick turnaround for Friday’s 7 a.m. practice on campus.
