I see Sarah Mendoza played in one set. Does that mean no redshirt for her? Don’t recall her ever playing prior to this.

    • Cindy Luis

Robin, believe the box is a mistake. They only took 13 so … she would be No. 14. No she is still redshirting, isn’t on the trip.

A win is a win. We’ll take it. They were able to come from behind. Go Wahine!!

  • Robin

To CSUN’s credit, they did beat a 9-3 Arizona team in 5 at Arizona, and swept 11-4 Texas Tech team in Houston (Rice tournament). Three losses were to Utah Valley St., Wisconsin, and San Francisco. Potentially about as good as a New Mexico State?

  • cocobean

We’re a young team with a lot of room for improvement. First road trip, new teams at new venues. This where strong leadershi[p(from the players) counts.

As Dorothy said, ” we’re not in the WAC anymore..”

  • RYK

It was ugly, but on the road you just win anyway you can. Down 14-12 it was like highway robbery, literally snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

The other 2 matches should be much easier, I don’t expect too much trouble from Riverside or Fullerton.

Great comeback! But like others are saying, its the first road trip in a new conference with new players, so it was good to start off with a “W”, but this could also mean the start of a “long” roadtrip. Just stay focused Na Wahine and bring your A-Game to each match and you will do just fine.

Plus, coach experimented with lineup as promised. Early rotation in G1 when Croson was backrow had Goodman LS, Hartong RS.

    • heluhelu

Also returned Kastl to RS when Croson was OH at times — and mixed/matched thruout. Must be difficult for team to maintain optimum chem/timing.

Heard Long mentioned quite a bit too. She saw reps in every set though difficult to differentiate players since game was broadcast with only *1* camera (midcourt angle) & *no* closeups or replays.

      • heluhelu

        Watching replay, note to self: Long got reps to serve;

          So Lelepali not on trip?

        • Cindy Luis

Play-by-play is available with the box at hawaiiathletics.com i f you want to see her numbers and when she served. 1 ace, 1 assist. 0-1-1 on backrow attack.

          • heluhelu

Thx. Also thought after watching replay, adjustment to ‘new’ foreign court played small role in Wahine discomfort. Lower ceiling (bumps ricocheting off basketball backboards), ob lanes with more/less space to chase down balls (more side, less behind), court lines overlaid on basketball floor (difficult to see) should remind them of Klum but it’s diff btw practice/game when points actually count.

Announcer did a very good job….felt he was unbiased throughout the match. Kudos.

    • heluhelu

Agreed. He was upfront about pronunciation problems before the match, asked for advice, got it, used it. Knows the game. Obvious strong Cali ties; played — and was beaten by — Croson in a beach match.
