which are the teams that dropped out of the top 16 RPI?

        • Cindy Luis November 19, 2012 at 10:55 am

only team that was in the top 16 last week and not this week was No. 15 Kansas State. Hawaii jumped over then-17 Texas A&M and then-18 North Carolina.
          This week Kansas State (21-7, 8-7) at 17. Texas A&M 18. North Carolina 19

RPI movement to 16 is great news. Wahine just need to keep winning.

    • Cindy Luis November 19, 2012 at 10:45 am

They do need to keep winning but they have no control over how the other teams do. They could get pushed out of top 16 for a number of reasons.

      • Orbitalripz November 19, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Exactly. Volleyball newbies need to keep reminding themselves that the RPI represents the teams’ STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE.

Thus, SAN DIEGO upsets BYU. What happens to the RPI? San Diego drops from #24 last week to #25 this week while BYU rises from #13 to #12 this week. That’s because the combined opponents that BYU played did better than the combined opponents that San Diego played last week.

Having said that, BYU’s loss is HUGE to the UH. If it comes down to choosing between the UH and BYU, that last lost of the season could be the dealbreaker to the NCAA (Selection) Committee. Unless the UH also loses one of its last two remaining games, which is why Coach Shoji keeps saying he needs his team to win out.

        • Cindy Luis November 19, 2012 at 12:16 pm

Yep, only thing UH can control is their own W-L record.

        • Orbitalripz November 19, 2012 at 12:17 pm

Oops, can’t delete like Cindy. BYU did drop from 12 to 13. And San Diego dropped from 24 to 25.

Guess who just got their 4th Player of the Week Award.

  • Orbitalripz November 19, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Cindy, does the BWC have All-BWC teams?

    • Cindy Luis November 19, 2012 at 12:14 pm

Yes, guessing the awards will come out next week after the regular-season is done.
The the regional team will be announced
Then All-Americans during the final four week.

      • Orbitalripz November 20, 2012 at 12:19 am

Probably on Tuesday if it follows the announcement of the “2011 Big West Volleyball All-Conference Team.”

2012 Big West Player of the Year = ?
2012 Big West Freshmen of the Year = ?
2012 Big West Coach of the Year = ?

        First Team = 16 players

        Honorable Mention = 8 players

        All-Freshmen Team = 7? players

    let me seeeee, eh?

  • Xtreme November 19, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Since the selection show is this sunday, this will be the last avca poll and rpi that the committee will look at right?

    • Cindy Luis November 19, 2012 at 12:57 pm

They should have another RPI through this week’s games to use.
The coaches vote Sunday mornings> They had a poll last year but the AVCA (IMHO) was too embarrased to post it or (conspiracy theory) were told not to since it was so skewed from the seedings. It eventually showed up

The AVCA website says the next poll is Dec. 18. which IMHO makes no sense if they’re supposed to take the poll into consideration this year. there are still matches to be played that could affect things.

    RE: AVCA TOP 25

    1. PSU [Big Ten] = 9th league title in last 10 years
    2. Stanford [Pac-12] = 6th conf. crown in last 7 seasons
    3. Texas [Big 12] = 6th conf. crown in last 7 seasons
    8. Hawai’i [BWC] = 6th BWC title & just 2 wins away from posting a perfect conference mark
    9. Louisville [Big East] = 5th Big East Championship title in program history
    12. Florida State [ACC] = Nov. 23/Friday winner-take-all matchup against Miami (Florida) for ACC crown
    13. Dayton [A-10] = Flyers’ 4th straight conf. crown
    15. Florida [SEC] = Won Eastern division while Texas A&M won weak Western division but no SEC tournament so Florida won its 20th SEC title
    16. BYU [WCC] = shares league crown with San Diego
    17. Western Kentucky [Sun Belt] = Toppers won 2nd straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament & thus league title & automatic bid to NCAA Tournament
    19. San Diego [WCC] = shares league crown with BYU
    21. Creighton [MVC/Missouri Valley] = Bluejays won 1st MVC regular-season title in program history; MVC Tournament will feature Creighton against Northern Iowa for NCAA Tournament automatic bid
    23. Miami [ACC] = Versus #12 Florida St this Friday for league crown & probably subregional hosting

Note: All Top 25ers not mentioned here are runners-up or lower in their respective conferences.

    • Orbitalripz November 19, 2012 at 1:01 pm

That Creighton note needs rewrite: The 6-team MVC Tournament for the automatic berth to the 64-field NCAA Tournament will feature Creighton as Seed 1 and Northern Iowa as Seed 2; championship match this Saturday.
