i don’t get it, is hawaii just getting snubbed week after week by the AVCA? i ,mean, they won twice this weekend if that counts. it wasn’t or didn’t sound like the prettiest matches, but a win is a win. hard to be a hawaii fan, and deal with all this nonsense, and disrespect hawaii receives.

    No surprises at all.

As I wrote on Sunday, “it’s a given” Illinois will be the new AVCA top-ranked team.

I voted Washington second and UCLA third — but it was vice versa.

Na Wahine (as I said) would not drop in the new poll. It’s good that the UH continues to fly under the Top 10 radar.

Most interesting is that this year’s regional hosts (3 of the 4) are bunched together: #10 Minn, #11 Hawai’i, and #13 Florida. Makes you wonder if Kentucky should have been chosen (not to mention it comes from the same conference as Florida).

This looks to be a year of “Pop Goes the Weasel” with the #1 seat being yanked from whoever is sitting on it each week.

And the big game of the week (says me): The Battle of the Undefeateds — Illinois vs Purdue.

Hawaii fans should be happy the Wahine stayed at #11. The fans that are upset, I think, would be Florida, dropping all the way to #13 from #6.

in Pablo ratings, Hawaii drops from 2 to 7 in just one week.

anyone know what Hawaii’s RKPI is this week?

This is the part of the season (WAC play) where Hawaii’s ranking in the AVCA coaches’ poll has less to do with what Hawaii does … than with what’s happening with the teams around them.

    Any info on Hewitt?

    • Cindy Luis September 26, 2011 at 1:27 pm

No info on Hewitt. They are off today. It’s back spasms and nothing they can control.

      • Steve September 26, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Sounds like the same problem that occurs every so often, for Hewitt. Usually occurs after long plane rides, etc. Is that what usually happens to Hewitt, Cindy?

        • Cindy Luis September 26, 2011 at 2:02 pm

Don’t know if it’s because of the plane rides. it has happened to her when they’ve played at home. She sat out part of some practices in the past few weeks.

          • Steve September 26, 2011 at 2:28 pm

I imagine tho, those long plane rides do not help her back any. At least next year, the plane rides will be short ones, her back will like that.

Ashley, Hawaii cannot move up the polls during the WAC season. Plus, they did not look powerful enough in first WAC games against Idaho and Utah St. Even if they continue to win in the WAC, they will probably drop in the polls. That’s just the way it is. Besides, I agree with the polls. You have to earn it. Playing the likes of Idaho, San Jose St, etc. is not enough to get the Wahine noticed. Anyway, its not important where they are ranked today. They need to be ready to play in the post-season when it counts. Lose one and out. Win and play on.

    • Steve September 26, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Bleedgreen – I totally agree with you. The only thing the Wahine need to do is, make sure they are one of the top 16, in seeding, so they can be home for the 1st two rounds.

in past years, Hawaii usually does move up in the AVCA poll during the WAC season as teams above them start losing in conference.

but this is a weird year… teams above Hawaii have been losing, but teams just below Hawaii have also leap-frogged them in the poll.

thus, so far, Hawaii has stayed put.

      • Cindy Luis September 28, 2011 at 10:10 am

I think you’ll see movement after this week. Last week was just the first week of the conference season. Hawaii should move up, but it may not be as high as no. 3 as they have been. but agree it is a weird season.
