Wahine to play in USC spring tourney

February 24th, 2011
By

Wahine officially begin spring practice March 7.
Hawaii will be going to USC spring tourney April 23 and sounds like they’ll scrimmage UCLA the day before. Don’t know who else is at SC.
The mini tourney with the DII schools is March 12. not sure where. it’s been up in Gym II and in Gym I in the past.

    Let me be the first…
    MAHAALO!

  • Hapa

I’m going to try this again, over here, as it will get buried in a past thread. I hope that it’s okay.

    ___

What ever happened to Jocelyn Levig???

    (2010) 6′1′, So., @ #24 UO.
She’s an OH, that was asked to play MB this past year; she’s no longer listed on the Ducks’ roster. She was a MAJOR power in WA State through HS, tho.

Hmm…it sounds as though Opp would be perfect for this transferring Jr.!
    —oh, yeah—
She’s got a thing for international (business?) studies

  • Curious

Thanks for the update on spring ball . Fans need an occasional bit of news it’s kinda like sticking a pacifier in the babies mouth.

  • Curious

According to the Arizona web site they are playing at USC at the same time in April.

  • Hapa

    Okay.’taylor’/others…here’s one:
’11, JR 6’2″ MB, pre-med major (not that UH doesn’t have medical progrm itself), BUT come to UH…ace everything with honors–to boot…apply to med school back at UW upon completetion & start residencies in Seattle.

Hey, she’s NEVER going to see court time (the way she’s capable/deserving).

*Besides which UW owes (Beckenhauer) ;-)
…not to mention the fact that she’s all in love with Rodrigo Santoro (a la spitting image: S. Wong)
    :-)

    • Hapa

Yeah (lolo) da name would be nice too.
      Kelcey Dunaway

      • Stinky Feet

        OK here’s one

        2012
        The Beast
        Resides in the valley
        6’4 MB
Mr Wong knows who I’m talking about.

        • Hapa

          Fernando…she’s staying put.
          Westwood. Hello!!!
ANYTHING within a 25 mile radius is going to be scooped up by Sealy & co. (these upcoming years). The man’s @ UCLA now. His staff/crew will be on it: mark my words.

  • ???

No matter how many times I read “Hapa” &”ingoodstanding”s posts, I still can’t figure out WTF they’re talking about!

    • Stinky Feet

Join the crowd I don’t think anyone does.:-)

    • Jogga

Had a good laugh. Couldn’t agree more.

    • Hapa

I’ll make it clear enough for those with comprehension problems:

The only way that UH was able to remain in the ‘game’ over the last decade (because the Lord knows that the best of the best haven’t been choosing UH over da PAC, da Big10/12, SEC)…WAS/IS because of what’d amounted to Kamana’o being a stellar setter. *Maybe some of you don’t know the finer nuances of the game, but the setter is the cog which codifies a team’s successes.
[It was Kanoe who carried the team from her So. years thru her Sr. season.]
      ___
      Presently:
& God bless Mafua, but she wasn’t the leader of any of her teams (as setter). When Aneli graduated, that was it for UH. She was the leader; no one stepped up after her. Nobody has been/IS able to rise up, for Manoa, since, as well…as we certainly don’t need to rehash 2010′s 29-3 record either. Poho!

When an institution can ONLY garner recruits #s 50-100 (@UH: IF that, mind you)…then it’s only a matter of time before circumstances catch up with a program. Inevitably those schools who’ve consistently recruited top 50 athletes, being simply too strong, they’ll be ones who thrash Na Wahine time and again. *It may tick some of you off to hear it; I know that truth can be/is too difficult to swallow yet.
      ___
‘Po’o,???’ once said, “With Hewitt we struck gold.” This is true. & for 2011 UH ONLY has 1 MB, 1 OH, and 1 OPP–if this is where she plays…THAT’S IT (it’s as far as it goes in being able to play with the BIG girls on the mainland). The same TALL, STRONG girls (of the continent) are ones which rank #1-50 of their respective classes, and they are eager to play in the competitive BC$ conference$ year-on-end.

Some are invisioning a NC this upcoming next year. I hope/pray that they’re correct in their assumptions. I, on the other hand, will be blessed to see Na Wahine make it into the Elite 8. I envision them falling short of that FF. Tho, I’ll be incredibly elated should they surpass my presumptions.

*2012 is proving my point(s) already.
      ___
      So,
      Now:
Go ahead and let ‘er rip. I know that bloggers will have their objections, I’m sure…(of course) with much in reBUTTal.
      :P

    • !!!!

Hapa has single-handedly ruined this blog for me with all the ridiculous blabbering on about nothing.

      • Hapa

You’re one who only “lurks”, remember?
& what’s up with all of the symbols???
        ???
        !!!
        ///
*It might be even MORE fun if everyone on this “Hwn blog”..by Cindy’s consent that is…why don’t people use their revealed/screen names from VT.
All to partay W/ da nasty girls! ;-)

  • Stinky Feet

Sealy will have problems keeping players it’s that yoga crap I hear. :-)

    • Hapa

He/Joy can’t force them to do yoga…can they???
That mystical stuff could surely be an infringement upon player’s comfort levels.
Wonder if Gil knew about Sealy before she left?
Wonder if this was already a concern for her in discision making?

      ___
Speaking of which. Why do sooo many UH fans (VT) cuss and posture themselves as adversaries, against other program’s fans? IF I were a star HS VB player who happened to be perusing–noticing the antogonism rather than aloha–I’d think something about coming to play in Hi. Straight up, MANY an athlete’s parents are on VT.

      *Just a thought.
      :-)

      • Cindy Luis

Hapa, you are getting a bit annoying.
Gil knew nothing about Sealy’s hire. Banachowski didn’t make his decision until after Gil and Cook left. so let it go about Mike.

        • Hapa

was/is not meant to be a slight against Mike.
He must be a VERY good friend, otherwise. On a number of occasions he’s been wholeheartedly defended. Buin pride–has to be one which–runs deep???

  • Hapa

    maybe you’re thinking TWINS???
    WTH IS ALSO BETTER, hah?
    :-)

  • Jogga

Back on another thread, it was said that Love had a good relationship with Sealy. Would it be a misstatement to say that had Sealy stayed here in Hawaii, she would have come to Hawaii? Also, what kind of relationship does Shoji have with the recruits? Has he kind of relinquished the duty of recruiting to his assistants?

  • Cindy Luis

I think that’s a reach Jogga. There is no confirmation that Love is at UCLA. All I said was she had a good relationship during the recruiting process here. Shoji hasn’t relinquished recruiting

    • Jogga

I hope you don’t think I was implying a “relationship” in an unprofessional manner. I meant in a professional manner. I know it wasn’t said she was going to UCLA for sure, but in reading Stinky Feet’s opinion, the thinking is right in that if she really wanted to go where SEaly was coaching, she would have come to Hawaii in the first place.

      • Cindy Luis

SF, just said they had a good relationship. she decided to stay closer to home. people continue to read way too much into simple comments.

  • Stinky Feet

Obviously Love’s love for Sealy wasn’t that big of a deal or she would have come here when he recruited her. It was her dad who seemed to like Sealy.

Dave had talked about his role in recruiting on one of his shows and it sounded like Ambrozich and Wong did most of the work and Dave made the final decision.

  • Stinky Feet

Scott Robbs referred to Dave as the closer.

    • Hapa

      Not good enough these days.
When associates can’t getter done, the head coach MUST shoulder all of the responsibilty.
Recruits, I’m certain, STILL have much respect for Shoji.
…don’t anticipate–personally–this continuing for much longer.
      ___
Wong is now “up to bat”.
      Sealy could do.
      Wade could do.
The other ass. insures great grades, though.

      • Cindy Luis

good lord. one player makes one decision and you blame all the other schools in the running for not closing the deal? Love visited many places. It wasn’t only UH she didn’t choose. please give it a rest. If she shows up, she shows up. if not, she didn’t.

        • Hapa

          To be honest…
I really don’t know about this Love of which people speak.
I’ve got a clue about who she is (may have seen here once on TV, but)
& since asked…truly wish that Dave would be the one given the “rest”.
He’s down to what?, now, 85lbs.

          ___

Yes. CINDY LUIS is ALWAYS the protagonist on dis here blog.
‘Volleyshots’ belongs to her; why would I (little ol’ me) want to instigate???
          :-)

        • Hapa

          Honey girl,
You know that I lav u, hah?
          …seriously!!!

  • Cindy Luis

get back to this later. Have to finish the Wahine basketball game.

  • Jogga

All this talk about Love is possibly for nothing. I don’t think UH has any scholarships for this upcoming year. I’m sure Dave would love to have the problem of having to scrounge around to have Love come here, but on the other hand, I don’t think he wants that problem either.

  • Hapa

    In any case…
This is what ‘I’ foresee fielding the floor in 2012 (as a guarantee on those returing, possibly).

    Setter: JR, Uiato
MBs: SR, Hewitt & SO, Vorster
    Opp: JR, Goodman
OHs: JR, Hartong & SO, Long
    Libero: SR, Maeda

Good team for a mid-major conference (BW). Top AVCA #15-25 team (none-the-less).

  • Hapa

USC, HI, Fullerton, LBSU, UCI, Pepperdine, San Diego, SDSU would be a GREAT tourney.

UCLA might be able to show UH da Love (;-)) by this time, also, with that scrimmage.

    ___
With all of this year round play these days, I don’t know about others, BUT
…I’m always one concerned about injuries (for, truly, when it really matters–the regular season).

  • Yabba-Dabba-Doo

Geez I wish I had a crystal ball like Hapa. :-)

    • Hapa

da ABC on the corner of Kalakaua/Lewers.
      :-)

    • Hapa

OCD/leads me to want 64 (rather than 63 in posts)…
Because I’m batting 1.000 in the predictions column (;-)),

I’ll also share that Hiroku keeps those “magic glass balls”, as she calls them, under her register on the back end of the store.
When you go into the ABC, plan on being there when her shift ends at 5p. The stash she keeps is exclusively hers; she has asked me to keep a closed lip on the matter, BUT…
Anyway. “I need magic glass to join gypsies” is all that needs to be said. She knows what to do next. Plan on at least $1200. You MIGHT be able to bartar, dunno?!

  • Yabba-Dabba-Doo

Another Bruin leaves Sealy this time it’s his asst. Dan Conners who take the asst. job at Nebraska.

  • Cindy Luis

I would hardly call it ‘another’ Bruin leaves. Dan may have taken a better opp. and probably more money, giving the state of the UC system.

      • Hapa

Now I know for certain who you are.
Nobody on VT comes close to being the grammar police as you…I mean NOBODY!!!

        • !!!

Actually I don’t post on VT because it is almost completely full of a bunch of argumentative homers/dimwits. Please go back there since you are constantly referring to it. It’s a much better fit for you.

          • Hapa

Kinda like how many despised Bush while he was in the White House…the man was of a sound mind, of love, definte power.
Only to be replaced by the ULTIMATE “homer” who’s now got everyone asking (of Bush)…”You miss me, yet?” ;-)

            ___

Heh, it seems as though this so called “argumentative” behavior–FOR WHICH I’M NOT–it cerntainly has got you posting NTL.
*I can’t figure out wheter this is blog is simply a job for Cindy (as then is would be more like a chore to have to facilitate) OR is it more part of personal ‘ball’ camp (as then it’s conducive to recreational relief)???

        • ???

Hapa, if you’re not already on drugs/meds…..you need to be.

  • Yabba-Dabba-Doo

Spin anyway you wish but another still Bruin left.

I’m not suggesting that something is wrong at UCLA.

    • Cindy Luis

Agree YDD, it’s not like there’s a problem with UCLA. Dan was/is a bruin and likely left for more money and better opp. Only so many chances you get to go to a big name program.

  • Yabba-Dabba-Doo

Geez did I did I mess up my last post or what ? I think I’m dyslexic .

  • Stinky Feet

USA web site has posted 642 photos from the tryouts going on this weekend and I have yet to see Hewitt .

  • Stinky Feet

Wait a minute could that be her on the very far left in the white jersey ?

    http://usavolleyball.org/multimedia/photo_gallery/2174/photo/55929#gallery-header

  • Safinatot

    No kanani?

  • Stinky Feet

    No Kanani .

Heard she was focusing on her beach game because some of the girls are planning on playing in an upcoming USA sponsored college beach tournament.

    Found another picture of Brittany.

    http://usavolleyball.org/multimedia/photo_gallery/2176/photo/56147#gallery-header

    • Hapa

Gosh. For someone who’s, currently, injecting a more potent ‘ice’ these days…as smoking batu was just not cutting it for me anymore…I’m coming in on the $ with speculations, aren’t I?! ;-)

I say Danielson/Wong for (FIVB) London Gold in the mixed doubles ‘sand’ competition.
It would be nice to see Kanani WIN something, other than states, in volleyball.
*2007 VB Mag. HS POY excluded–that is. :-P

    • Hapa

      “College Beach”…
      Must be Div. I

      ___

      Div. II, III, NAIA
      *in San Diego (April/2011)

  • Yabba-Dabba-Doo

Open tryouts officially over today . A2 Team to be announced mid March.

  • Hapa

    BIG QUESTION…

Does UH have a “Brazilian Connection” in the mix???
MBB recruiting So. to be, Gerson Santo (out of Idaho) next season? If so, does he bring along a fellow country’man’ with him…. ;-)

    Hmm.?!

    • Hapa

Oh yeah. Sticking with my evens vs. odd #s ‘thing’.
UH MVB remains #10 in AVCA.
*I find it somewhat difficult to believe.
SC STILL 1, BYU, Stanford up to #3.

  • ???

    Hapa,
Just for fun, IF you’re ever sober, reread all you posts.

  • Hapa

    Why?!
    That’s what you’re here for. ;-)

The joke is: ‘originality’ is what–hopefully–we could all be striving for.
IF Po’okela wants to spend all of its time on VT…then ‘it’ should go for ‘it’ (as it does 24/7).
but IF ??? wants to post on ‘volleyshots’ also…A LOT MORE power to ‘it’.
    “Just for fun”, eh, brah???
