Wahine win in 5

By Cindy Luis

Quite a match. A little surprised they pulled it out 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-13. Passing was off. Cal Poly had great serving. Atherstone bothered Hawaii 2 years ago and she’s only gotten better. They’ll need to do a better job with Olowolafe. Still a good match to watch. 2 hours, 26 minutes.

Does anyone know if the regular vball floor will be back on Friday night or will the seniors leave playing on the basketball floor?

Cindy, how does someone with the talent of Atherstone slip through the cracks of a major volleyball program? I am not trying to berate Cal Poly, but I could easily see her making it one someone’s Pac-10 roster.

Yes, the basketball court is down. Some of it because it’s Thanksgiving weekend and some of Rich’s staff have some time off. It takes several hours to make the change over. And since they had to keep the court for women’s basketball, no time to change over. Might as well play both matches on the same floor.

I believe that Hawaii is the only team in the WAC with a sport court so they’re used to playing on the hardwood n practice and on the road.

Good question, not to knock Cal Poly. Atherstone born and raised in Chico. Who knows how the recruiting went. A very good beach player as well. SLO is a beautiful place. So many good players these days that the big schools can’t take everyone.

You look at Cal Poly’s Gaby Rivera. Recruited by Hawaii, I remember her recruiting visit, but chose Florida State. Then transfered to CP. UH only had 2 scholarships that year (O5). One went to Houston, they other they were holding for Cubi-Otineru.
Shoji didn’t realize she had transfered until he saw her after Tuesday’s practice. Interesting exchange I was privvy to. Rivera is from Puerto Rico, think she chose FSU because it was closer to home. But told Shoji she now knows she wouldn’t have gotten homesick if she had come to UH. Shoji said that he hadn’t kept track of her after she committed to FSU, didn’t know she was at CP.
