Wahine’s first practice

Not much to write about. They took things easy, a typical first practice as Shoji said.

It was a lot of small group skills. They are carrying 20 at the moment, added Katiana Ponce, a L from Moanalua. Asked if he needed another L/DS. he said no but … then shrugged his shoulders.

Only injury I saw was Katie Spieler, in a walking boot with a fractured toe. but she is able to pass.

Banana bread for all afterwards.

Didn’t speak to the players but Shoji said he was very pleased with the first practice. They go back this afternoon and will have two-a-days through the weekend, well maybe just 1 practice Sunday after church. I’m going back later this afternoon and will try to check in from there.

Shoji said he was happy with his transfers, that they should all be able to contribute. The question is how everyone fits in. Asked about Blake, he said he had no comment and to not ask again (with a smile).

He said he had a great time in London. Don’t think he was surprised but the USA men losing today. Really enjoyed being at Wimbledon to watch tennis. You can read more on the UH website.

Son Erik, watching practice, is finishing his pre-med degree with a chemistry class at UH. He will be playing in Germany, in the same league as Kawika (Berlin), and leaves before the season. Said it will be the first time ever he hasn’t watched at least 1 match live since he’s been alive.
