Warriors-Beach Night 2 rewind

March 31st, 2012
By

Tonight pretty much summed up how this team was. So close but couldn’t close. They had the potential to sweep this one. No playoffs this season. even if they beat UCSB next week, the best they can do is 6-18. CSUN already has 6 wins and holds the tiebreak over UH.

Nice senior night video as always.

Final stats:

Warriors hit 108 in set 4, 219 for the match

Hunt 18-9-52, 2 BS, 1 BA

West 10-2-21, 1 ba

Lofy 7-2-13, 2 BS, 3 BA

Marks 5-5-16

Carroll career high 19 19-7-36

Castello 18 digs. great match

Hartley 3-5-10 in 2 sets. Averill 0-0-1 in 2 sets

for the 49ers, hit .290 in Set 4, .250 for the match

Crabb 20-4-38, Omee 13-3-21, Hemmerling 11-5-30, Nadazdin 6-4-28, Meehan 7-3-14

UH had 51 digs, LBS 45. 49ers with 18.6 blocks, UH with 8. They had 5 in Set 1.

Have a good night folks. See you next week, hoping to get the ‘scoop’ on the transfer before i leave for California.

Terrible season, wade has work to do…..

  • Steve March 31, 2012 at 9:58 pm

Time to clean house, not only players, but assistant coaches, too.

    • warriorfan March 31, 2012 at 11:22 pm

UH does not have to do something that drastic, they were just a few points from winning many more games. Castello will be hard to replace. A setter upgrade and a better middle to replace lofy would make this team top 5 IMO. Plus Maar will make a big impact.

Just want to say congrats and best wishes to all 4 seniors.

  • LC April 1, 2012 at 6:30 am

About this transfer thing.Fans should also look to the JC and foreign ranks not just the USA , that is if you want to play the guessing game between now and next week.

    • Cindy Luis April 1, 2012 at 3:11 pm

I’m guessing too. Still digging but pretty sure it’s not foreign

  • Ron April 1, 2012 at 6:41 am

Once again WF is on the money. This team never quit and gave us lots of good volleyball. We just could not finish. Sam improved on his out of system sets, he remained inconsistent on the “easy” sets. That is what killed us in crunch time. We also need a setter who is a better blocker. If Welsh could get back to where he was at the end of his freshman year he will help next year. West and Marks should be better. If Maar is half as good as reported, we will be in the hunt next year. Steve, stick to pestering the softball fans with your inappropriate comments.

I know that some will try to “scoop ” this transfer thing but now that we know that an announcement is coming I can wait for it.

    • Beauston April 1, 2012 at 1:12 pm

I agree but dying while waiting

    • warriorfan April 1, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Me too, I am keeping low expectations. I fully expect it to be a DS or a bench player at her old school,

Hopefully there will be a nice surprise and it ends up being someone like Krista Vansant or Karsta Lowe :)

      • vballfreak808 April 1, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Having Karsta Lowe would be really nice since she has the height for an opposite and I’m not sure when the last time Hawaii had a lefty hitter

What’s going on with sand volleyball this morning???

  • LC April 1, 2012 at 9:42 am

I can’t say anything here about sand vb because I have high expectations but I can tell you that one UH team is in the Gold Final coming up soon.

    • Cindy Luis April 2, 2012 at 11:34 am

LC, i didn’t say anything about not being able to have high expectations. I said to have realistic ones when UH was competing with mostly indoor players against a team that is strictly sand and has been training for a year, with a full-time coach.

  • BabyMarley April 1, 2012 at 9:46 am

Thank LC… Do you know what pair???

  • BabyMarley April 1, 2012 at 9:47 am

    Is it Croson and Lee???

  • BabyMarley April 1, 2012 at 10:28 am

Tiegs/Newgard FSU trail Croson/Lee Hawaii 12-9 in 1st set of Finals.

    • uhfan April 1, 2012 at 10:30 am

Congratulation to Jane Croson and Ashley Lee on their win it all today…

  • setaone April 1, 2012 at 1:38 pm

in time, Croson and Lee are going to be the Hawaii #1 team.

    • warriorfan April 1, 2012 at 1:45 pm

At the end of the month i fully expect them to be the best in the nation

  • LC April 1, 2012 at 1:48 pm

They took the Gold(Croson/Lee and Silver(Nordyke/Uiato) and

The team place second in the tournament which is based on sets won/loss.

Croson,Lee,Nordyke and Smiley (Uiato) made the All Tournament Team.

Wow. Croon, uiato, lee. All long beach!

  • Safinator April 1, 2012 at 8:27 pm

    Sorry. * Croson*

  • Poster 1 April 1, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Why didn’t Kanani Danielson use her last year to play sand volleyball?

    • Wawa April 1, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Because she wanted to win a Haili tournament title instead.

    • Poster 1 April 1, 2012 at 10:45 pm

      Looking for a real answer.

      • vballfreak808 April 1, 2012 at 10:53 pm

One reason was her medical condition. I think she also wanted a chance to play professionally so playing sand would have possibly affected that.

        • Cindy Luis April 2, 2012 at 11:36 am

Danielson had no interest in sand, wanted to finish school, and look ahead to pro indoor. plus her overheating condition made it not really feasible over the long term.
