Warriors=Cardinal rewind

April 29th, 2010

A good win for Stanford and all the local players on the team The Cardinal played steady when needed and Kawika Shoji kept alive many rallies, finished with 13 digs as well.
Umlauft got called for a couple of 3-meter attack errors, something that hasn’t happened much this year.
A good season for the Warriors, tho. If they had only swept UCSB it would have been a very different playoff scenario and maybe the Warriors would have playing the Cardinal Saturday for the title.
Predict an all-MPSF NCAA title match. I don’t see Stanford/CSUN having much problems with Penn State/Ohio State (or Loyola).
But thought Wade got a lot out of his team and is building something good. A lot of the MPSF teams are losing a lot and Hawaii should finish top 4-5 again next season. The freshmen middles are going to be under fire and we’ll see what happens with the JC liberos.
Rawson off to the national team in two weeks. Grgas may be going to Europe. He’s got dual citizenship. And Cervantes could end up on the beach tour.

I agree with you about if only Hawaii swept UCSB. Sad to see the Warriors’ season end without making it to at least the final four, but, I do applaud their undying effort of both the team and the coaching staff.

I didn’t have the volume up on my tv for most of the match, due to someone of the classless Stanford fans chanting “Bullsh*t, bullsh*t..” when a questionable call by the ref went to Hawaii’s favor. But most of all, the chant that some of these classless Stanford fans were chanting which I found offensive, was when Umlauft went to serve and you can hear the chanting of “U.S.A., U.S.A..”. I realize that they were trying to get into the head of Umlauft, but it was classless with the words they chose nonetheless. It would be like, if Stanford was playing in Hawaii, and each time a player from Hawaii on Stanford’s team went to serve and you hear chants like “Traitor, traitor..”. But enough of my rant on that issue. All in all, it was a great season despite the outcome. This season exceeded all of my expectations.

And Cindy, thank you so much for again, going that extra mile in making this season exciting! Now if only the women’s season would start already!

And before I forget, Cindy, now that both papers will merge, how long before the website’s address will change and will I have to re-bookmark this forum due to that changing?

Agree it was a typical college crowd, certainly not the same as what is in the SSC. Fans here are spoiled by the ‘love the game’ atmospere.
as for the web site, no idea. we are told things hours before they show up on the web site (breaking news). my guess is July 1, just because they’re so tied into the fiscal year. thanks for following along this season.

I didn’t have the volume up on my tv for most of the match, due to *some* of the classless…

Wish there was an edit feature on this forum. :)

    • Cindy Luis April 30, 2010 at 7:07 am

What would you suggest (edit feature). Can always pass this along to our web masters

I guess what would be better, is instead of an edit feature, a poster still has an option of deleting their post while the post is still yet to be reviewed before the webmaster(s) decides to allow it to be added to the forum. :)

Congratulations to both Walker and Umlauft! Just read your article on them picking up All-America awards.

Did you see Daniel Rasay (former Hawaii setter 2001-2005) on the Cardinal bench. He’s been the volunteer coach this past season. Kimo texted him and asked him if was a Cardinal or a Warrior last night.
No Comment from Daniel. My daugther Pua (Iolani Asst. Varsity Volleyball Coach) was also texting him alot during the match. My kids mentioned that Daniel might get his Second Ring* this year.

Daniel has been paying his dues in the coaching ranks. We wish the Kid all the best in his future coaching endeavors.

    * Even though the title was taken away, the players still kepted their well deserved 2002 NCAA ring.

Hi Jim. I had mentioned Kimo being an assistant back in November.

I know where the 2002 banner is. Hope he gets another ring.

we should start giving the other teams, including the UH Palo Alto Teams, more distrations now that we know how much the other schools do to our team. it does not have to be mean spirited like what i’ve seen with LBSU, UCSB, BYU-man, even their players itself are…

and USC with the Aflac, i was there in that jan game, i could hear it but made nothing of it, slow like Dave Reardon i gues, until he wrote an article about it on Monday i think.

they are here to beat us, including the Shojis ‘n the McLachlins…show them pleasantries after the game, but during the game, the are the opponents…distract & scream at them, but not to the level that they are giving our Umlauft…but then again, i think we need to get rowdy too sometimes…LOL!

dunno, never this mean but i guess i am still bleeding for the team.

    tnx Cindy…

until the SSC is mostly students, you won’t see the atmosphere you get at other places. And we know that isn’t going to happen. I did see the endzone student section get into it some matches. But I’ve also seen where if fans get too rowdy, the people next to them try to quiet them because they’re being distracted from watching the match.
At least Stanford wasn’t as bad as UCLA in 96 where it got anti-semitic.
AFLAC was funny. and Zemljak got his revenge when taking out McKibbin.
Sadly, the biggest distraction was by Matt Rawson’ brother and Rawson will be gone.
